Competitors and friends
For the second year running, Mitsubishi Electric Europe UK Branch hosted a Unified Sports football tournament, where players from across the company joined with Special Olympics Team GB (SOGB) representatives to make four teams that battled against each other for the glory of being named champions.
Played indoors this time to beat the British weather - it was great to see people from both Mitsubishi Electric Europe UK Branch and SOGB reconnect over their love of the game.
Competition was fierce but friendly - and showed the importance of unified sports in developing confidence for those with intellectual disabilities and a greater understanding about the impacts of these disorders for everyone that takes part.
One of the spectators, Wayne Stretch, commented ;
“It was really good to see people from different business unit and from Special Olympics joining together to enjoy an evening of exercise. I was inspired by how many relative strangers worked together to have a fun evening.
Cheryl Cox from Mitsubishi Electric said;
“The games are played with such energy and engagement but inclusivity is at its root and everyone respect that. Mitsubishi Electric Europe UK Branch loves hosting this event and look forward to continuing our ongoing partnership with SOGB.”
Special Olympics Great Britain is the largest provider of sports training and competition for children and adults with an intellectual disability.
