04 September 2025

A team from across the Mitsubishi Electric Europe UK Branch took part in the inaugural Special Olympics GB (SOGB) Inter‑partner Sports Challenge on 4 September 2025, joining partner organisations from across the UK for a full day of inclusive, friendly, and high‑energy competition. The event followed a round‑robin format, giving every team the opportunity to experience a wide variety of sports including Badminton, Boccia, Football, Athletics, and Boxing. Some colleagues took the chance to try sports they had never attempted before, supported by SOGB coaches who guided participants through each activity.

Throughout the day, teams were encouraged to focus not only on performance but also on teamwork, encouragement, and celebrating the achievements of athletes of all abilities. The atmosphere was vibrant, cheering sections, and informal opportunities to meet SOGB athletes and learn more about their sporting journeys.

The highlight of the day came during the relay race, where four members of the Mitsubishi Electric team stepped forward to compete against SOGB athletes and representatives from Coca‑Cola, UPS, and other partner organisations. In a tense and exciting finish, Mitsubishi Electric proudly brought home the winner’s trophy — a moment met with loud applause from both colleagues and other participants.

Beyond the competition, the day served as a powerful reminder of the positive impact Special Olympics GB delivers. SOGB supports more than 12,666 athletes across 27 sports and is powered by an extraordinary community of 5,940 volunteers. We are honoured to continue supporting this inspiring organisation, which provides safe, inclusive, and empowering sporting opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities, helping them build confidence, community, and lifelong skills through grassroots clubs.
